Story is one of the most powerful technologies for causing learning and creating connections. Join Cynthia Merrill and Andrea Calvin as they provide a hands-on workshop focused on authentic storytelling and empowering student voice. Drawing from her days as a newspaper editor, Andrea shares stories from the classroom and ideas on how to get your students published. Cynthia is a consultant, speaker, and teacher dedicated to strengthening literacy experiences for all students and the mother of our Tuesday keynote speaker, Olivia Van Ledtje @thelivbits. Cynthia works in diverse school communities throughout the US coaching, training, and encouraging administrators and teachers in their practices. Explore the power of Get Published! an online student publishing platform (K-12) hosted by Peter H. Reynolds (The Dot, Say Something, The Word Collector). Using Get Published!, Peter coaches your students through videos and activities, sharing real-world tips on developing characters and storylines, the value of collaboration and editing, and the joy of publishing books. During the session, participants explore ideas for the classroom and the tools to unlock their own publishing house - in their classroom. This workshop is offered in the MITI (a device is included in the workshop fee) format ONLY and includes a Get Published! classroom license (26 accounts). (Presenter(s): Cynthia Merrill, Staff Developer & Speaker, LivBits, and Andrea Calvin, The Reynolds Center)
