As technology becomes more and more of a factor in the middle school classroom, how do we optimize the effect of our computer usage? Online simulations provide a perfect venue for allowing students to explore concepts and deepen their content knowledge. Using Gizmos and the new interactive CASES from ExploreLearning, participants explore topics ranging from basic cell structure, population diversity, density and physics. Working through CASES, students have the opportunity to act like real scientists: conducting experiments, gathering data, making a diagnosis, and prescribing solutions for real world scenarios. ExploreLearning not only provides an obvious subject area connection, but its ease of use allows for teachers to horizontally enrich the curriculum while challenging their students to broaden their understanding of the science curriculum.
